One Foot In The Grave – Spotlight & Review

One Foot In The Grave by Jeaniene Frost

  • Mass Market Paperback: 384 pages
  • Publisher: HarperCollins Canada / Romance ( April 14 2008 )
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0061245097
  • ISBN-13: 978-0061245091
  • ( From The Back Cover )

“You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide . . .

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won’t let her get away again.”

The second book in the Night Huntress series comes out swinging! Cat and Bones practically ignite the pages they’re so hot together. This book comes in a few years after the ending of Halfway To The Grave and hits the ground running. Cat’s saucy attitude, mad fighting skills and her kick-ass team come up against some dangerous situations that kept me flipping the pages with anticipation.

I am totally hooked on this series and if you’re an Urban Fantasy fan then this is definitely a must read! The plot is engaging, the characters addicting, the world-building phenomenal and the writing fantastic. I can hardly wait until the next book in the series At Graves End which will be out next month, Dec 12th. Jeaniene Frost is another author to add to my favorites and my auto-buy list.

    Paranormal 999 Challenge

I’ve just signed up to do my very first challenge over at LibraryThing! Here are the details:

    Paranormal 999 Challenge

Description: 9 books in 9 different categories, all read in 2009. For an added challenge, try completing your books by 9/9/09! This group is to help you track your progress on the Paranormal 999 challenge

    The catagories are:

    1. Vampires
    2. Werewolves
    3. Ghost
    4. Witches
    5. Wizards
    6. Werepanther or Weretiger or Wereleopard in other words a werecat
    7. Dhampir or Demons (your choice!)
    8. Law enforcement (like guardian or cops or something like that)
    9. Psychic or Clairvoyant or Seers (anything to do with the mind)

Just post here and let us know how you’re doing and the books you choose for the catagories!

(Borrowed the description from the original 999 Challenge.)

So now I get to go through my leaning piles of TBR books to find books for all the categories. I’m really looking forward to this! I like that it’s a smaller book challenge because I’ll have time to get them in there as well as my requested reviews, so for those of you who are too busy for the 50 or 100 book challenges, this one’s a great one. 🙂 ETA – my bad, I was under the impression that this challenge was for only 9 books. Apparently it’s 9 books in each of the 9 categories, so 81 books. Yikes! I’ve committed to 2 or 3 in each category, so it’s still going to be a fun challenge, but I’ve adapted it to suit me. 😀

    ETA   – The List –

    1. Vampire
Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton
    Accidentally Dead by Dakota Cassidy
    Vamps by Nancy A. Collins

    2. Werewolves
The Accidental Werewolf by Dakota Cassidy
Heart Of The Wolf by Terry Spear
On The Prowl by Karen MacInerney

    3. Ghost
    Haunted by Kelley Armstrong
    GreyWalker by Kat Richardson
Ghost Of A Chance by Kate Marsh

    4. Witches
The Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison
50 Ways To Hex Your Lover by Linda Wisdom
    Grave Sins by Jenna MacLaine

    5. Wizards
Unquiet Dreams by Mark Del Franco
The King Of Sword & Sky by C.L. Wilson
Harry Potter & The Philosophers Stone

    6. Werecat – panther
    Rogue by Rachel Vincent
    Night Huntress by Yasmine Galenorn
Visions Of Heat by Nalini Singh

    7. Dhamphir – Demon
Dhamphir by Barb & JC Hendee
    Midnight’s Daughter by Karen Chance
    Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

    8. Law Enforcer/Guardian
Dead To Me by Anton Strout
Warrior Angel by Margaret & Lizz Weis
Redemption Alley by Lilith Saintcrow OR
Lover Avenged by JR Ward (whichever I can get 1st)

Dead And Gone by Charlaine Harris
    Shadow Touch by M. Liu

    Hunter’s Prayer – Spotlight & Review

    hunters-prayer1Hunter’s Prayer by Lilith Saintcrow

  • Mass Market Paperback: 352 pages
  • Publisher: Orbit; 2nd edition, revised edition ( Sep 1 2008 )
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0316001767
  • ISBN-13: 978-0316001762
  • (From Back Cover)

    Jill Kismet Is In Trouble

Another night on the Nightside…An ancient evil looms over Santa Luz. Prostitutes are showing up dead and eviscerated. And Jill Kismet just might be able to get her revenge against an old enemy.

There’s just one problem. Someone wants Jill dead – again. And if they have to open up Hell itself to kill her, they will.

Sometimes, even when you’re Jill Kismet, you don’t have a prayer…”

If you’re a Lilith Saintcrow fan, then this second book in the Jill Kismet series does not disappoint! I really like the character depth that is simutaneously revealed along side a rip-roaring ride of dark and gritty urban fantasy at it’s best. Paranormal elements mixed in with mystery, romance, extreme danger and so many themes it’s amazing.

A master of her craft, Ms. Saintcrow has an uncanny ability to not only put you inside the protagonist’s “head”, but to make you “feel” every thought, emotion, pain, triumph, relief, hope, fear and joy that Jill Kismet experiences, and have you rooting for her and Saul all the way.

I will give a “little bit of gore described” warning, so if watching the morgue scenes on CSI is too much for you, then be prepared, but I find that it adds to the “reality” that is Jill Kismet’s world. I, for one, am really anticipating the next book in this series, Redemption Alley, (I can’t find a release date for it yet!?).

    Untamed – Spotlight & Review

Untamed by PC & Kristin Cast

  • Paperback: 352 pages
  • Publisher: Griffin; 1st edition ( Sep 23 2008 )
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0312379838
  • ISBN-13: 978-0312379834
  • (From Back Cover)

“Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you. Just ask Zoey Redbird-she’s become an expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a close group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. Speaking of friends, the only two Zoey has left are undead and unMarked. And Neferet has declared war on humans, which Zoey knows in her heart is wrong. But will anyone listen to her? Zoey’s adventures at vampyre finishing school take a wild and dangerous turn as loyalties are tested, shocking true intentions come to light, and an ancient evil is awakened in P.C. and Kristin Cast’s spellbinding fourth House of Night novel.”

In this fourth installment of the House Of Night series, Zoey’s adventures continue and it really felt like she came into her own. She does a lot of growing up, facing consequences and makes hard decisions. The characters and plot are even more developed and I was totally caught up in the tale once again.

I do think that this is a series that should be read in order as all four books are a continuation of the book before, but you could pick up any of the books and have no problems following along.

Untamed definitely left me anticipating the next book, Hunted, which is due to be released in March 2009. The author’s do not dissapoint with this book! The build up of the world, characters and situations they find themselves in are moving along at a fast clip and I couldn’t put it down.

This is a young adult series, so if you’re a fan of the Twilight books, the Vampire Academy series, the Morganville Vampires series or the Kissing Coffins series, then this series is a sure bet!

    Pumpkins 2008

Here we have my two pumpkins I carved this year.

I like my “Boo Kitty” I had no luck what-so-ever getting any good photos at night. I supressed the flash and it still flashed! Stupid digital camera, that I still like better than the old ones, but still… so here’s my attempt at the pumpkins at night.

    And the “garden” decorations.

And there it is! Please feel free to leave links to your costumes, decorations or pumpkin pictures in the comments. I’d love to see them. =)
