Sidhe Vicious Reviews

Spoiler Free Reviews & More Book-ish Goings On :)

Sidhe’s News & Updates

I just wanted to let everyone know what I’ve been up to besides getting back to reviewing. I’ve updated the BIOS/Policy page, updated my Wish List in the sidebar, and I’ve gone through my links and culled any that were no longer good links. If any of you find any more “dead” links in my sidebar, or if you have any cool links to share with me, please let me know and I’ll consider adding them. I’ve attempted to “clean up” the side bars a bit too.

I’m still plugging away at updating the “My Books” list/pages. Bear with me on that one as there’s a LOT of updating to do on those, lol. We should also have the New Releases for August & September up shortly. Tori & I are working on that as I type.

As you all know, Tori’s joined me on the blog as a reviewer recently and I’m loving having her here! I hope you all are as excited as I am about having some new reviewers. I have another new reviewer in the works who will also be a great addition to the blog. 🙂

On to other news – I’ve been mulling over a few things and I thought I’d put them out there to see what you all think.

Zombies! Do you love ’em, hate ’em or run like hell if you see one coming? 😉 LOL  I’ve been seeing more zombie books out there and I gotta say that I’m not really all that attracted to buying/reading them myself. I know that there are a few really good ones out there, but for the most part, I find them pretty disgusting and have a really hard time liking any main characters who are zombies. If they are secondary characters or the villain/antagonist, then they can enhance a story, but as the main character? For the most part… no thanks. What do you think?

Steampunk! Are you all loving it or not liking it? I can’t say that I’ve read a whole lot of books in the genre, but I didn’t really like the few that I have read. Not because the writing was bad or anything like that. They were well written, but just didn’t appeal to me. It kinda makes me sad, because so many great authors are putting out books in this genre and I am not wanting to read them. Sound off people, I want to know what you think!

Winner – Foresight

Oh what a week it has been! My Birthday was on Saturday, had to make two trips to the doctors and I got caught up in all the excitement that is/was Blog Fest and Blog Mania. Whew! And then there’s BBAW going on to keep me reading too. I got lost in the internetz while reading new blogs and entering a few contests. Ok, more than a few. I am officially a contest-whore this month, lol. There are sooo many awesome books that have been recently released and that are coming up. I just couldn’t help myself. I would need to win the lottery to get them all, so I decided to try my luck with winning some of them in contests. Yep. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Hello! My name is Judi and I AM a book-a-holic!

Thanks to Sherry for coming by and to everyone who entered! 🙂 But enough of my rambling, you all want to know who won the copy of Sherry Ficklin’s Foresight. Random.org gave me #51, so a big

 CONGRATULATIONS to jmspettoli!!!

Please email me at sidhevicious(at)shaw(dot)ca with your mailing info so we can get your book out to you. If I don’t hear back from the winner in 5 days, a new name will be drawn from the entries. If you didn’t win, there are more contests going on and coming up, so be sure to check back. Or you can click on the book cover to order a copy for yourself. 😀

Computer Conundrums Or Catastrophies… Take Your Pick

  • Mood:

I know I haven’t posted in a few days, sorry all. My “new” (just bought it 10 months ago), laptop decided to completely die on me Friday night. Needless to say, much hair-pulling and cursing has ensued. You can read my full rant HERE I’m totally choked over this.

I had all kinds of plans this weekend to read, write reviews, finally finish my move over to WordPress, send off interview questions and watch a movie or two. None of that happened.

So here’s a peek at what’s coming up here in the next little while.

Reviews of JR Ward’s – Lover Enshrined, Gena Showalter’s – The Darkest Kiss, Rae Lori’s – Uthiel’s Embrace, Martha L McBryer’s – Destruction Of An Innocent and Rachel Caine’s – Gale Force.

An Interview and Contest with Jeri Smith Ready, the author of Wicked Game. I believe Jeri will be popping in to answer questions or respond to comments, so make sure to come by on the 14th.

A Review and Contest with Devyn Quinn, author of smokin hot books such as Eros Island (Anthology), Sins Of The Night, Sins Of The Flesh and Flesh And The Devil. Devyn will be popping by on the 29th to answer questions or respond to comments, so make sure to be here!

I have all kinds of cool things such as interviews, guest blogs, contests and the like in the works, so I hope you’ll all forgive me this time for going MIA for a few days. I hope everyone had a better weekend than me.  <– ( Me, the grumpy gal

Don’t you just hate it when computers just die on you for no reason. It must be even more annoying when it is a new computer!

I have been having problems with my main computer for months now. Just turns itself off when it feels like it.

Ah well I hope it gets better and you get to do everything you need to do soon!

R – Rated People

Apparently my blog is R-Rated people! Who’da thunk?

OnePlusYou Quizzes and WidgetsOnePlusYou Quizzes and Widgets

This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:

  • dead (9x)
  • dangerous (4x)
  • hell (3x)
  • pain (1x)

What can I say but that I review Urban Fantasy, lol. Be warned readers, I’ve been R Rated, mwhuuaa ha ha ha.

Does “R” stand for Rockin? Right On!? Or maybe Really Rad Reviews at the Realm of Raves and Rants for the Refined Ranks of Recommended Reads! Take that rating people! HA! And try saying that really fast 10 times.

Mish Mash Friday

  • Currently Reading: Blood Noir

You may have been wondering “Where’s Sidhe? She hasn’t posted, what’s going on?”  Never fear readers, I just got my hands on a copy of Blood Noir! Funny, about every 6 months when the new Laurell K. Hamilton book comes out, I disappear for a day or two into my batcave, or should I call it the Sidhe Vicious uber-dungeon, from which I emerge, blinking into the light, lol.

Sadly, my friend Urban Fantasy Reader is still MIA. I don’t know what’s going on with her, but I wish her the best. Also, you may or may not have noticed that there have been no recent posts over at Urban Fantasy Land. The only thing I know with certainty is that Lisa Trevethan, whose posts were always filled with awesome information, is no longer with UFL. She will be writing reviews for Bitten By Books.

I have about half of my blog moved over to WordPress now, so we’re getting there. I’ve decided to change the name of my blog to Sidhe Vicious Reviews. Let me know what you think of the new host, new name, and these awesome graphics I had made!

WOO HOO!! I love them!

Have a great weekend everyone.

You stole lisa!! No wonder I haven’t been getting my UFL news. Is she going to do the same for you?

Posted by Sidhe:

No, no, she’s reviewing over at Bitten By Books-another review site. So don’t hate me. I just read her post about leaving UFL on her livejournal blog. I’m sad about her leaving UFL too, I went there everyday to see what she had to say. I don’t believe she’s doing anything other than reviewing books at BBB. 😦

I did wonder what had happened over on UFL! Now I know 😉

I also wonder where UFR is! It has been ages since she posted anything! I hope she is ok!

  • Mood: happy and tired
  • Watching: Trek
  • Currently Reading: Feast Of Fools

Sorry I haven’t posted much this week. I’ve had a few things in the works, and also had to take a test, so not as much reading happened as I would’ve liked. I’ll have my review of Rachel Caine’s 4th book in the Morganville Vampires series, FEAST OF FOOLS, up soon!

Urban Fantasy Reader, where are you? My friend seems to be MIA, and though I miss her unique take on urban fantasy, even more so, I’m worried about her! Does anybody know where she’s at? I sincerely hope she’s ok and am sending my best wishes wherever she is.

Just confirmed, the week of June 9th to the 15th is officially going to be Yasmine Galenorn week here at Sidhe Vicious Raves & Rants to celebrate the upcoming release of Dragon Wytch on July 1st!! I’ll be reviewing the first 3 books in the Sisters of The Otherworld series: Witchling, Changeling and Darkling. Then it’s an awesome interview with Yasmine and for the grand finale, my review of Dragon Wytch.

I also received news this week from JF Lewis that it’s looking very good that the sequel to STAKED is going to be published! Woo Hoo and a big congrats to JF!  I’m really looking forward to reading it and will keep you all updated on any new developments.

The series finale of MOONLIGHT was absolutely awesome last Friday, and I am sad to see it go. I won’t go on about it, but suffice it to say that I could think of plenty of other shows on that network that I would not miss! GRAY’S ANATOMY season finale rocked my socks off! I won’t post any spoilers incase not everyone has seen it yet, but I just have to say FINALLY!!! LOL The AMERICAN IDOL finale was great, and for the first time I found myself wishing that there could be a tie. Both David’s are amazing, and I’m sure they will both have huge career’s based on their exposure from this show. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE was a blast to watch as always! Yes, I am a sucker for the auditions, and these two reality shows are my two guilty pleasures.

Books I got this week include: Stone Masters: A Vampire Reckoning by VMK Fewings, The Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison, Shifter – Anthology w/ Angela Knight, Lora Leigh, Alyssa Day & Virginia Kantra, Maximum Ride: The Final Warning by James Patterson, and Uthiel’s Embrace by Rae Lori.

The move to WORDPRESS is moving along slowly. Right now, up for viewing are my reviews of Halfway To The Grave, One Bite Stand, The Nymph King and Unshapely Things. Pop on over and have a look, say hello, or let me know what you think!

Sunday Soundoff

  • Watching: Desperate Housewives
  • Currently Reading: The Darkest Night

I went to the Kelley Armstrong talk and signing yesterday! For details and photos, go to my LiveJournal.

My move over to WordPress is coming along slowly but surely.  As I mentioned, I’m starting with my oldest posts, so if you’re somewhat new to reading my blog here, head over to word press and you can read some of my earlier reviews/posts.

My friend Amberkatze in Vienna, just had some of her reviews published in UK’s Bite Me Magazine. Congrats Amber!! Go and grab yourself a copy if you can.

Books I got this week include: Haunted by Kelley Armstrong, Succubus In The City by Nina Harper, Shield Of The Sky by Susan Krinard, Master Of Swords by Angela Knight, A Taste Of Crimson by Marjorie M Liu, Vampires Are Forever by Lynsay Sands, Portrait Of A Man by Tracy Fobes, and My Immortal Protector by Jen Holling. Woot, what a good haul.

I’m pretty disappointed with the cancellation of Moonlight. Why do they always have to cancel the good shows and keep playing the super-tacky reality programs? I will admit to watching American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, and Wife-Swap, but the rest… no thanks. I’ve never made it through an episode of Survivor or The Bachelor. I have no desire to watch any of these model competitions, cooking/chef competitions, people losing weight, addict interventions, etc, etc, etc. I won’t get started on some of the tv shows that have been on the air for years that I’ve never watched, and don’t know anybody who watches them either!? But these shows, they keep? Maybe the top dogs at the networks need some new blood, because whoever is in there now is NOT catering to “the people”, that’s for sure. That’s my rant of the week. What do you all think of show cancellations and the crud reality shows?

That’s awesome that Kelley Armstrong was so nice. I’m going to go see LK Hamilton in a couple of weeks and I only hope it goes as well.

I kinda like the Top Chef reality show on Bravo, but I like to cook, so maybe that has something to do with it. I never got into American Idol, but I loved the first season of So You Think You Can Dance. I’ll have to check it out now that Grey’s Anatomy is off for the season.

Ooohhh, I wish I could go to a LKH signing. She’s never come up to my “neck of the woods” so to speak. 😦
The 2 hour season finale of Grey’s is airing this Thurs for me, so I’ll hopefully be getting more reading in when there’s nothing but reality shows on all summer, lol.

Exciting News

  • Mood:
  • Watching: Desperate Housewives
  • Currently Reading: Dead Man Rising

As you can see from the post before this one, I’ve been accepted as a reviewer at Paranormal Romance.org! I’m pretty darn excited about it too.  But don’t panic readers, I’m not going anywhere. I will still be posting my own reviews, interviews, contests and I have another surprise in the works for you. I really enjoy sharing my love of great books with you all, and appreciate you taking time out of your busy lives to stop by for awhile.

It has been brought to my attention that some people are having problems with loading my blog.  I’m wondering if this is a common problem, or is it just the few. So can you please leave me a comment to tell me if you ever have problems with getting here, loading the pages, etc. If this is an ongoing issue, I’ll move the blog to another host. Please let me know. I can only try to fix issues if you all let me know about them, so don’t be shy. Thanks!

I’m excited for you all about the contest going on with JF Lewis, so scroll down & leave a comment to have a chance at winning!! Sending out big hugs to you all my fellow paranormal/urban fantasy peeps!

We interupt our regular reviews to bring you…  An update! LOL I spent about 9 hours yesterday doing spring cleaning – bleach the walls, ceiling and everything in-between cleaning. Sadly, no reading was accomplished.

Anybody who is going to be in or around the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada area on May 17th, Kelley Armstrong, author of The Otherworld series, (Bitten, Broken, Stolen),  will be doing a signing at the west-end Chapters at 2pm. I’m excited to get to meet her and have my books signed. It’s her first time out here, so lets try to make it a great event for her.

Mood: Excited
You all know I’m reading Jennifer Rardin’s – Biting The Bullet. I’ll have the full review and spotlight up on it tomorrow, but I have to share this bit with you. I love this passage:

“He looked into my eyes and the room went silent. “I could never have done what you’ve done,” he finally said. “You’re an amazing woman. Thank you.”

I bobbed my head, pressing my lips together so I wouldn’t start blubbering. Because the next step would definitely be snot bubbles. And I so did not want to ruin this moment with snot bubbles. So I did it with work.”

OMG, I’m still giggling over this! I love the way this character (Jaz Parks), is portrayed. I’ll give more details tomorrow, but I had to share this now. Priceless. (Bowing down to Ms. Rardin for creating one of the best new female leads I’ve come across).

Other EXCITING up-coming news is an interview with author Adrian Phoenix! (Doing the happy dance) I absolutely loved her debut urban fantasy novel A Rush Of Wings. An amazing novel from an awesome lady, what could be better than getting to know her through an interview? We also have a really cool surprise cooked up for you all, but I’ll save that announcement for later.

Happy Easter – Happy Ostara – Happy Spring Equinox to you all. =)
