SVR – News & Updates

First off, as I’m sure some of you have noticed, I added a flag counter app to my sidebar and can I just say how cool it is to see where people are who are checking out my little corner of the internet. Hello to you all! 🙂

I still haven’t heard back from the winner of Bernita Harris’ Dark & Disorderly, so I used random.org to draw a new winner.  #14, Julie Swaney, Congrats! 😀 Please email me at sidhevicious(at)shaw(dot)ca so we can get your ebook out to you.

Other interesting news I’ve come across lately:

While science fiction often deals with the world of tomorrow and fantasy often illuminates worlds that never were, paranormal romance and urban fantasy are—mostly—set in the world we live in. Sort of. I mean, as far as we know, our world isn’t actually populated by vampires, witches, elves, demons, or the other creatures that inhabit urban fantasy and paranormal romance novels. Right?

To showcase this diversity, Tor.com is celebrating July as Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Month! They’ve rounded up half a dozen original pieces of short fiction, and will have guest blogs and interviews from paranormal romance and urban fantasy authors and editors. For more about the brand new fiction, guest posts, and extras of Tor.com’s July celebration, go to Tor.com

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Titan Books is launching a brand new website, which is going to be packed with exclusive content and special features, so pop on over there and check it out! Don’t miss the Jose Molina interview about his experience working on FireFly. There’s new Lenore artwork showcased on the blog, contests, awesome books, etc.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Paul Goat Allen of BN.com (And the mod for the BN.com book club featuring Adrian Phoenix’s Black Dust Mambo) just posted an excellent blog about Adrian Phoenix’s books and Black Dust Mambo! I could not agree with him more!

There’s also a new podcast up at Seattle Geekly featuring female authors: Adrian Phoenix, Mira Grant, Jennifer Brozek, Seanan McGuire, Jessa Slade and Marjorie M. Liu! So have a listen to hear what these urban fantasy authors have to say.

SVR Updates & A Winner

First off, I hope all my fellow Canuck’s had an awesome Canada Day long weekend! I also hope all my American readers had a great 4th of July long weekend! Geez, we were partying it up on this side of the ocean all weekend, lol. 😀

I recently updated the New Releases list, so July’s on there and even a few August releases are up. Thank you Chapters/Indigo for the Buy 3 Get 1 free sale where I loaded up on new releases. I’ve also updated my Rec’d 2010 page, so if you’ve sent me a book for review and are wondering if I’ve received it, you can find out there.

I’m still working on updating my “My Books” pages, having a heck of a time trying to work with Open Office documents on my recently installed Microsoft Office/Word. It’ll get there, but in the meantime, my GoodReads and LibraryThing are usually updated to within a week if you’re wanting to scope out my ridiculously huge library.

And now on to the winner of Bernita Harris’ giveaway! Random.org gave me #25, so

kisah, congratulations!!! Please email me at sidhevicious(at)shaw(dot)ca so we can get your e-book sent off to you. 🙂

Thanks to Bernita Harris and to everyone who entered! If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 7 days, a new name will be drawn from the eligable entries.

Cheers! 😀

SVR Updates

Hi All! 😀

I’ve had a few people ask me to let you all know when I’ve updated things in my sidebar or added a new page, so here we go. I recently updated my Wishlist in the sidebar, so you can see what books I’m jonesing for both already released and upcoming. Yeah, and I can just insert my foot in my mouth now because I’ve received and bought a whole bunch of books in the last 2 weeks. But it is fairly recent. *Grins* I swear!

I’ve added a new page to the blog titled New Releases. Pretty self explanatory, lol. I know I’ve been a hard core slacker for the last few months with my new release list, so I’m hoping that this page and format will be easier and faster for me to maintain. It’s still a work-in-progress, so no links yet, but you can see all the wallet breaking goodness that’s out this month. (The 29th is going to kill me!) I’ve also included a bunch of books that were released in the last couple of months – those being the months I slacked off on. Just scroll down the page for this months releases.

I know, I know… I am WAY behind on updating my “My Books” pages, and for those of you who reference them for new books, authors or just out of morbid curiosity about what’s on my bookshelf, I promise that I will update them ASAP. My GoodReads bookshelf is, by far, the most current representation of my book collection. As always, please feel free to comment or email me if you have any questions about any books or authors. I do my best to get back to you as fast as possible.

And just because it never gets old,

Smile, it could be worse!

ETI: I have all the links up on the New Releases page and will frequently be adding new books/links, so be sure to check the page often!

Sidhe’s News & Updates

I’ll start with some updates. 🙂

Jackie over at Literary Escapism has an excellent newsletter of New Covers, Interviews and general updates about the Urban Fantasy and Paranormal community. There are also a few contests and links to contests.

Anna over at Anna’s Book Blog has a great list of current contests that are going on around the blog-o-sphere!

(I totally love her graphic!) -“Because Evil Doesn’t Rest For The Holidays” may just be the best slogan I’ve read this year! LOL Only my “twin” could come up with this. 😀

If you don’t believe me, here’s a pic of my TBR piles, and piles… and piles. It’s ridiculous, I know, but I keep buying MORE! 😀 (The pile is actually even bigger now as this pic is a couple moths old, lol).

News & Updates

-Well, I FINALLY got my bookshelf pages updated and posted! There are hundreds of amazing authors and books listed in both Adult and Young Adult genres of Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Graphic Novels, Manga, and a couple others.

I hope that this list will help readers find new authors and books. Just click on the My Books A-K and My Books K-Z links at the top of my blog. Eventually, I’ll get started on making the book titles into links, but for now, it’s up-dated and there for you all to browse.

-I bought the Star Trek DVD and have to say that I was really impressed with JJ Abrams version of the series! I’m really hoping that they will make another movie with these actors playing these characters. Awesome!

The next movie that I am dying to see is Avatar. The trailer looks amazing!

UPDATE– Best selling author, Yasmine Galenorn, will be here on December 5th to begin the launch of her Jan 5th release, Bone Magic. I’ll be interviewing Yasmine and there will be a giveaway for two books. Yasmine will also be popping by to respond to comments on the 5th and 6th, so be sure to come by.

Now I’m off to read and give my fingers a rest. The mega-type-a-thon of the book lists is done. Whew!

Sidhe’s News & Updates

Monday morning inevitably always arrives… here’s what I’ve come across in the last week or so

I have been interviewed for the first time over at Bookluver – Carole’s Reviews, so if you’re wanting to know a bit more about moi, then head on over for a read. Carole reviews mostly young adult books and does it well, so if you’ve got a yen for mainstream/general fiction young adult, then that’s a great book review blog!

There’s a great interview with author, Jeanne C. Stein over at Fangs, Fur & Fey. She’s the author of the Anna Strong Urban Fantasy series: Becoming, Blood Drive, The Watcher, and the recently released, Legacy.

Jaye Wells posted the cover of her up-coming novel, Red-Headed Step Child, which will be released in 2009 by Orbit US. Congrats Jaye!

I’ve seen the cover for JF Lewis’s second book, Revamped and it’s awesome! I’m not allowed to post it yet though, but had to mention it. 🙂

Other exciting news is that Laurell K. Hamilton announced at Dragon Con that a movie and possibly a TV show are in the works based on her Anita Blake novels. Can I just say WHOOOP Whoop!!! I’m a huge fan, so am really stoked about that news. I read about it on Laurell’s Blog on Sept 3rd/’08.

Jennifer Rardin has been contracted to write 3 more Jaz Parks books with Orbit!! I’m super happy to hear that as I am a huge fan of her books.

Annette Blair’s Birthday is today, so I send out a uber Happy Birthday to you Annette!

Caitlin Kittredge’s Birthday is coming up on the 18th, so I’d like to send out Wicked Birthday Wishes to Caitlin!! 😀

Bad Blogger & Updates

My deepest apologies for having disappeared for the last week or so. My bloody laptop died , AGAIN! It’s off being “fixed” for the third time, and I’ve run out of explicatives to describe my frustration and anger.

Buried at Photocasket

                           About covers it!

I was also in a wedding party over the weekend at my best friend’s wedding. It was a really beautiful ceremony and wonderful dinner. My feet, on the other-hand, in the heels I was wearing, decided to launch a revolt and I now have a pinched nerve and no feeling in one toe. Oh!! Look, it’s me visiting my dead feet!

Caitlin Kittredge is guest blogging over at David Bridger’s, How To Get Your Novel Published Blog, and she’s blogging about agents.

Computer Conundrums Or Catastrophies… Take Your Pick

  • Mood:

I know I haven’t posted in a few days, sorry all. My “new” (just bought it 10 months ago), laptop decided to completely die on me Friday night. Needless to say, much hair-pulling and cursing has ensued. You can read my full rant HERE I’m totally choked over this.

I had all kinds of plans this weekend to read, write reviews, finally finish my move over to WordPress, send off interview questions and watch a movie or two. None of that happened.

So here’s a peek at what’s coming up here in the next little while.

Reviews of JR Ward’s – Lover Enshrined, Gena Showalter’s – The Darkest Kiss, Rae Lori’s – Uthiel’s Embrace, Martha L McBryer’s – Destruction Of An Innocent and Rachel Caine’s – Gale Force.

An Interview and Contest with Jeri Smith Ready, the author of Wicked Game. I believe Jeri will be popping in to answer questions or respond to comments, so make sure to come by on the 14th.

A Review and Contest with Devyn Quinn, author of smokin hot books such as Eros Island (Anthology), Sins Of The Night, Sins Of The Flesh and Flesh And The Devil. Devyn will be popping by on the 29th to answer questions or respond to comments, so make sure to be here!

I have all kinds of cool things such as interviews, guest blogs, contests and the like in the works, so I hope you’ll all forgive me this time for going MIA for a few days. I hope everyone had a better weekend than me.  <– ( Me, the grumpy gal

Don’t you just hate it when computers just die on you for no reason. It must be even more annoying when it is a new computer!

I have been having problems with my main computer for months now. Just turns itself off when it feels like it.

Ah well I hope it gets better and you get to do everything you need to do soon!

Mish Mash Friday

  • Currently Reading: Blood Noir

You may have been wondering “Where’s Sidhe? She hasn’t posted, what’s going on?”  Never fear readers, I just got my hands on a copy of Blood Noir! Funny, about every 6 months when the new Laurell K. Hamilton book comes out, I disappear for a day or two into my batcave, or should I call it the Sidhe Vicious uber-dungeon, from which I emerge, blinking into the light, lol.

Sadly, my friend Urban Fantasy Reader is still MIA. I don’t know what’s going on with her, but I wish her the best. Also, you may or may not have noticed that there have been no recent posts over at Urban Fantasy Land. The only thing I know with certainty is that Lisa Trevethan, whose posts were always filled with awesome information, is no longer with UFL. She will be writing reviews for Bitten By Books.

I have about half of my blog moved over to WordPress now, so we’re getting there. I’ve decided to change the name of my blog to Sidhe Vicious Reviews. Let me know what you think of the new host, new name, and these awesome graphics I had made!

WOO HOO!! I love them!

Have a great weekend everyone.

You stole lisa!! No wonder I haven’t been getting my UFL news. Is she going to do the same for you?

Posted by Sidhe:

No, no, she’s reviewing over at Bitten By Books-another review site. So don’t hate me. I just read her post about leaving UFL on her livejournal blog. I’m sad about her leaving UFL too, I went there everyday to see what she had to say. I don’t believe she’s doing anything other than reviewing books at BBB. 😦

I did wonder what had happened over on UFL! Now I know 😉

I also wonder where UFR is! It has been ages since she posted anything! I hope she is ok!

  • Mood: happy and tired
  • Watching: Trek
  • Currently Reading: Feast Of Fools

Sorry I haven’t posted much this week. I’ve had a few things in the works, and also had to take a test, so not as much reading happened as I would’ve liked. I’ll have my review of Rachel Caine’s 4th book in the Morganville Vampires series, FEAST OF FOOLS, up soon!

Urban Fantasy Reader, where are you? My friend seems to be MIA, and though I miss her unique take on urban fantasy, even more so, I’m worried about her! Does anybody know where she’s at? I sincerely hope she’s ok and am sending my best wishes wherever she is.

Just confirmed, the week of June 9th to the 15th is officially going to be Yasmine Galenorn week here at Sidhe Vicious Raves & Rants to celebrate the upcoming release of Dragon Wytch on July 1st!! I’ll be reviewing the first 3 books in the Sisters of The Otherworld series: Witchling, Changeling and Darkling. Then it’s an awesome interview with Yasmine and for the grand finale, my review of Dragon Wytch.

I also received news this week from JF Lewis that it’s looking very good that the sequel to STAKED is going to be published! Woo Hoo and a big congrats to JF!  I’m really looking forward to reading it and will keep you all updated on any new developments.

The series finale of MOONLIGHT was absolutely awesome last Friday, and I am sad to see it go. I won’t go on about it, but suffice it to say that I could think of plenty of other shows on that network that I would not miss! GRAY’S ANATOMY season finale rocked my socks off! I won’t post any spoilers incase not everyone has seen it yet, but I just have to say FINALLY!!! LOL The AMERICAN IDOL finale was great, and for the first time I found myself wishing that there could be a tie. Both David’s are amazing, and I’m sure they will both have huge career’s based on their exposure from this show. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE was a blast to watch as always! Yes, I am a sucker for the auditions, and these two reality shows are my two guilty pleasures.

Books I got this week include: Stone Masters: A Vampire Reckoning by VMK Fewings, The Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison, Shifter – Anthology w/ Angela Knight, Lora Leigh, Alyssa Day & Virginia Kantra, Maximum Ride: The Final Warning by James Patterson, and Uthiel’s Embrace by Rae Lori.

The move to WORDPRESS is moving along slowly. Right now, up for viewing are my reviews of Halfway To The Grave, One Bite Stand, The Nymph King and Unshapely Things. Pop on over and have a look, say hello, or let me know what you think!
